Tri-Township Fire and Rescue Chief Col. Amir Mousavi said dispatch received a call about the brush fire at the 16 milemarker spreading to the 18.5 MM at 4:50 p.m.

But at 5 p.m. they received a report of another brush fire spreading from the 8 MM to the 9 MM.

It took multiple southern Indiana fire agencies to get the fires under control.

Mousavi said they'll never know how the fires started because it could've been something as small as flicking their cigarette outside their window.
