Donald Trump ‘hoodwinked’ Scots with £1bn golf project, says ex-aide

Scotland was “hoodwinked” by Donald Trump’s claims his first Aberdeenshire golf resort would be a £1 billion project, his former aide has said.

Trump had promised to spend £1 billion on Trump International Golf Links, which opened in 2012, but this did not materialise.

Neil Hobday, who was the project director for the course, said he felt “hoodwinked and ashamed that I fell for it and Scotland fell for it”.

Hobday told the BBC podcast Trumped: “I don’t think even if he could raise the money to build the whole thing out, he wanted the golf course and that was it.
