Fresh off its first appearance in the USA TODAY Sports coaches poll since 2022, No. 23 Mississippi State baseball heads to No. 6 Florida for a tough three-game series.

The Bulldogs (18-8, 3-3 SEC) are coming off a midweek win at Samford. The game was tied entering the 10th inning before a home run from Bryce Chance sparked a four-run outburst and secured a 9-5 victory for MSU.

Despite its impressive national ranking, the Gators (14-10, 4-2) have had an underwhelming start to their season. Florida is coming off a 14-3 loss in eight innings against Florida State on Tuesday. The defeat came after the Gators won two of three at LSU.

UF has lost to FSU twice to go along with losses against St. John's, UCF, Stetson and Jacksonville this season.

Mississippi State had a promising start to conference play two weeks ago when it took two games against LSU. Last week, the Bulldogs dropped two of three games at Texas A&M.

Game 1: Florida 7, Mississippi State 6

MSU starter Khal Stephen allowed only two runs in six innings before Cam Schuelke threw a scoreless seventh, guiding the Bulldogs to a 6-2 lead entering the eighth. However, things came undone in rare fashion Friday. MSU relief pitchers Tyler Davis, Brooks Auger and Nolan Stevens combined to throw four walks and allow five runs en route to a heart-breaking defeat.

Game 2: Mississippi State 12, Florida 2

MSU evened the series in resounding fashion on Saturday. The Bulldogs got another strong start on the mound with switch-pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje allowing only two runs in seven innings. He struck out eight Gators while walking two. Of his 109 pitches, 63 were strikes. MSU trailed 1-0 heading into the fourth inning before the offense came to life. Mississippi State scored five in the fourth inning before adding three in the fifth and three in the sixth. The Bulldogs hit five home runs, with Dakota Jordan and Connor Hujsak each hitting two.

Game 3: Florida 4, Mississippi State 3

MSU again let a lead fall in the ninth inning. Jac Caglianone's two-run blast gave Florida the win after MSU led 3-2 going into the frame. The Bulldogs had a bullpen game on the mound with Karson Ligon, Cam Schuelke and Evan Siary combining to throw nine innings. Caglianone started strong for UF on the mound, but MSU knocked him out in the fifth inning.
