A devastating six-vehicle pile-up on U.S. Route 1 in Southwest Miami-Dade claimed the lives of two drivers on Saturday. The fatal incident was a result of a high-speed collision where a Ford SUV slammed into the rear of a red Nissan sedan that was stopped at a traffic light, as per Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash, which occurred near Southwest 132nd Avenue just after 6 a.m., killed both the male driver of the Nissan and the female driver of the Ford, authorities reported. The aftermath of this collision led to a secondary accident involving four additional vehicles, causing minor injuries to several individuals.

Information obtained from WSVN indicated that U.S. 1 was temporarily closed at Southwest 129th Street whilst troopers carried out their investigation on the site of the carnage.

Traffic was diverted and motorists advised to seek alternative routes during the hours-long closure. The names of the deceased were not released as officials were notifying next of kin. According to a post by CBSMiami on X, the man and woman died at the scene following the initial impact.

As of now, the Florida Highway Patrol has not revealed if any charges will be filed. Investigation into the deadly crash continues, with authorities working to piece together a timeline of events that turned a routine stop at traffic light into a lethal tragedy.
