Freight and Logistics Staff News Starts with a Sad Departure

US – A sad start to this week’s staff changes in the freight and logistics industry following the death of retired shipping Executive Niels Winchester Johnsen, who died at his home in New Jersey on August 7, at the age of 93. Johnsen joined the US Merchant Marine in World War II where he survived two torpedo attacks that sank the ships he served on. After coming ashore in 1946, Johnsen began a long career in the maritime industry and retired in 2003 as Chairman of the International Shipholding Corporation, the parent company of Central Gulf Lines and Waterman Steamship Corporation.

US – Con-way Freight has announced the promotion of Lori Blaney to Vice President of National Account sales. Based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, she reports to Stephen Dean, Senior Vice President of Sales at Con-way Freight.

US – FedEx Trade Network has appointed Dr Udo Lange as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

US – Virgin America has announced the appointments of Jennifer Vogel and Paul Wachter to its Board of Directors, effective immediately. Vogel was most recently Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Secretary and Chief Compliance Officer of Continental Airlines in Houston. Wachter is the founder and CEO of financial and asset management advisory firm Main Street Advisors in Los Angeles.

US – US Coast Guard Vice Admiral Charles Michel formally assumed the role of Vice Commandant of the Coast Guard during a ceremony at USCG Headquarters at the beginning of the week.

AUSTRALIA – UGL Limited has announce the appointments of Jane Harvey and Robert Kaye SC to the UGL Board as non-Executive Directors. Additionally, Doug McTaggart has resigned from the board effective since the beginning of the month due to other conflicting Board commitments.

INDIA – With immediate effect, Bhaskar Patel is appointed as Managing Director of Technip India, taking over from Samik Mukherjee, who recently moved to Technip Corporate Services in Paris, France, as Group Senior Vice President Strategy & Business Development, Subsea. Patel will also keep responsibility as Group SVP, Key Account Management.

OMAN – NETHERLANDS – Sohar Port and Freezone has named Marc Evertse as Executive Commercial Manager as his predecessor Edwin Lammers moves back the Netherlands to take on a Senior Management post at the Port of Rotterdam. Evertse most recently worked as Senior Project Manager for Port of Rotterdam.

UK – Colin McLoughlin has been appointed as the Head of Operations at the Ports of Hull and Goole, operated by Associated British Ports.

UK – DSV Road has appointed automotive expert Marc Coleman to the role of Sector Development Manager, based in the UK.

UK – The British Safety Council has announced former Chief Executive of the UK Hydrographic Office, Michael Robinson as its new Chief Executive, effective from September 1.
