If you're a dog owner, then you already know that dogs definitely do smile when they are happy. Miranda and Remy LeBeau are photographers and owners of Floofy Studios in Vancouver, and they shared a video on Thursday, April 4th proving that dogs really are capable of smiling.

The video shows photos taken of 11 different dogs, and they are all smiling for the camera. The photos are colorful, full of cheer, and I dare you not to smile when you watch them! Which is your favorite pooch?

After I watched this adorable video, I headed to Floofy Studios TikTok page, which is full of even more photos that will brighten your day! I also headed to their website, and there is a waitlist if you want them to photograph your fur baby...and it's not cheap! Floofy commenters all agreed that yes, dogs do smile and that these dogs were all too cute. I think my favorite was of the dog wearing the crown and smiling so big that its eyes closed!

Can Dogs Really Smile?

While dogs don't smile the way that humans do, they definitely can show their expressions of happiness and joy. Purina has this to say on the subject, "Dogs can make their faces appear to smile. This happens when they open their mouths and pull back their lips, letting their tongues lap over their teeth. This “dog smile” usually occurs in situations when they are relaxed and appear happy." Purina goes on to say, "These “dog smiles” also often occur in response to a human smile, which is a phenomenon called laughter contagion. Dogs may appear to smile because we smile at them."

It's really hard to not smile when you look at Floofy Studios' pictures, so I guess laughter contagion goes both ways! PetMD shares that dogs are masters at reading body language, and that they know that when they smile it makes us happy. PetMD goes on to say, "They also know that our happiness often means extra attention, treats, and fun time for them. Not only do they like making us happy, but they like how we treat them when we are happy!" That definitely makes a lot of sense!

So how do you make your dog smile? You make them happy. There are several different ways that you can make your dog happy. Treats of course always do the trick. Playing a game that they love to play (our puppy could play tug-of-war all day) or taking them on an extra-long walk...all we have to say is the word "walk" and our puppy is beside herself with happiness! Extra cuddles and attention will also get you a smile. And when your dog smiles, I dare you not to smile right back at them!
