Randy Lewandowski, a native of Fort Wayne, has been promoted to president and CEO of the Indianapolis Indians baseball team. He previously was president and general manager.

Lewandowski will oversee all aspects of the organization’s day-to-day operations with an emphasis on business strategy that optimizes the club’s growth, community involvement and financial and operational performance.

The Indians are the Triple-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Lewandowski first joined the Indians as a ticket office intern in 1994.

He is a graduate of Bishop Dwenger – he’s a member of the Saints’ Hall of Fame as a baseball player – and played at Anderson University. He graduated from Anderson in 1993 with a degree in business management.

“Randy has shown tremendous commitment to our fans, staff and community and is a proven leader to guide the Indianapolis Indians organization,” Bruce Schumacher, Indians chairman of the board, said in a news release. “His promotion to president and CEO recognizes his contributions to our club’s many successes and positions us well going forward.”

TinCaps again get rained out

For the second night in a row on their season-opening homestand, the TinCaps had their game with the Lake County Captains canceled because of rain. Fort Wayne dropped the series opener 7-2 on Tuesday, then had Wednesday’s game washed out by rain. That matchup will be made up with a doubleheader Saturday, but MLB regulations prohibit doubleheaders on back-to-back days, so Thursday’s game will be made up when Fort Wayne visits Eastlake, Ohio, in early May. Those with tickets to Thursday’s game can exchange them for seats of equal or lesser value at any game the rest of the season at the ballpark ticket office. The series is set to resume at 7:05 p.m. today.
