MEMPHIS, Tenn. — WFMY News 2 turns 75 this year, and we're looking forward to it.

On April 4, 1968, a shooting rocked the entire nation. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee.

People mourned in the days and weeks that followed.

The following year, on the anniversary of his death, a Greensboro church held a memorial service.

"Bigoted fools have never learned, and I guess they will never learn, that you can destroy the body, but you can never kill the spirit,"  Dr. JT Douglas of Saint James Presbyterian Church.

He delivered the message at the memorial service at Trinity AME Zion Church on April 4, 1969. The service featured Douglas' message singing and prayer.
