Officials identify Sturgis man who died in White Pigeon Twp. crash
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. (WNDU) - Officials have identified the Sturgis man who died in a head-on crash early Saturday morning as 26-year-old Clayton Whitcomb.
Deputies with the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office were called just after 2 a.m. to Fawn River Road near Mill Pond Road in White Pigeon Township.
When they arrived, they found Whitcomb pinned in his vehicle. He was later pronounced dead.
According to police, Whitcomb was driving east on Fawn River Road when his vehicle crossed the center line and into the path of another vehicle that was heading west on Fawn River.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 28-year-old LaGrange man, was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say alcohol and speeding appear to have played a role in the crash. They also say seat belts were not being worn.
The crash remains under investigation by the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office.
