The Larimer County Coroner’s Office has identified 63-year-old Fred Garcia as the man killed in a fatal motorcycle crash last week.

Garcia, a Longmont resident, died as a result of both a heart attack from a cardiovascular disease, which he suffered prior to the crash, in combination with injuries sustained in the crash, according to the Coroner’s Office.

Just before 3 p.m. April 4, the sheriff’s office received multiple 911 calls about a “serious crash” at the intersection of U.S. 287 and Berthoud Parkway, according to a previous release.

Deputies determined that the motorcycle was traveling northbound on U.S. 287 with two riders, an adult man who was driving and an adult woman who was riding with him. Authorities have not identified the woman passenger on the bike.

The release did not detail exactly how the crash occurred, saying only that it happened when a Dodge Ram 2500 flatbed truck traveling south along U.S. 287 turned left onto Berthoud Parkway, according to the release.

The motorcycle riders both sustained serious injuries and were transported to an area hospital, where Garcia was ultimately pronounced dead. The driver of the truck was not injured.
