Reviewing Michigan State Football's New Transfers

The Michigan State football program obtained quite a bit of new transfers this offseason.

The Michigan State Spartans are partaking in a bold and unique strategy this offseason. The program almost completely cleaned house with the coaching staff by bringing in many coaches and staff members from Oregon State and a few other places. In addition to the coaches and staff members, the Spartans have 11 new commits from the transfer portal.

Aiden Chiles, a former four-star recruit and quarterback from Oregon State, showed great talent and promise in his nine games as a Beaver.

Jack Velling is a tight end who is more of a receiving type from Oregon State. In his sophomore season, Velling caught 29 passes for 438 yards, ranking him as the No. 4 tight end in terms of yards per catch. In his freshman year, he caught 16 passes for 281 yards, which is 2 more yards per catch than his sophomore year. Velling is an incredible addition to this Spartan offense.

TJ Sheffield is a veteran receiver who will be a sixth-year senior in the coming season. Sheffield has caught only recorded 11 touchdowns and 1,209 receiving yards in his three seasons as a Purdue Boilermaker.

Quindarius Dunnigan is a second-team All-Conference USA defensive end from Middle Tennessee State. Dunnigan started in 11 out of 12 games last season and recorded 35 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and three sacks.

Jordan Turner is a linebacker from Wisconsin who is a Michigan native. Turner earned All-Big Ten honorable mention in back-to-back seasons. He recorded 61 tackles, 6.5 for loss, three sacks and a forced fumble last season.

Kaden Schickel, a long snapper from James Madison, will likely replace Michigan State's long snapper, who left after this past season.

Tommy Schuster, a quarterback from North Dakota State, will join Chiles in the quarterback room. Last season, Schuster threw for 2.256 yards and a 19/5 TD/INT ratio.

Tanner Miller, an upperclassman offensive lineman from Oregon State, earned second-team All-Pac 12 honors last season and seems to be on track to be the Spartans' center next season.

D'Quan Douse is a defensive tackle from Georgia Tech who, during his time there, had 69 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and three forced fumbles.

Wayne Matthews III, linebacker from Old Dominion, ranked 11th in the nation last season with 135 total tackles. Last season, Matthews earned third-team All-Sun Belt Conference recognition.

Luke Newman, is an offensive lineman from Holy Cross, who earned FCS All-American honors twice and started three years at Holy Cross.

These players and coaches all have experience, have earned honors and awards and can rebuild this Michigan State program.

The Michigan State Spartan Football Spring Green and White Game (Spring Showcase) will be held at the High Cathedral of the Spartan Nation, Spartan Stadium, on April 20, 2024, at 2 p.m.
