Animal welfare authorities in San Bernardino are seeking the public’s help in identifying the person who they say abandoned two puppies, including one that was severely burned, outside a veterinarian’s office.

“Based upon how and where the puppies were found, it is believed this may have been an intentional act of animal cruelty,” the city of San Bernardino Animal Services wrote in a Facebook post. “The vet has determined the injuries and wounds were likely caused by fire.”

The Labrador retriever mix puppies are 3 months old.

On April 4, Animal Services officers were called to the clinic on W. Highland Avenue, where someone had left them there overnight.

Both puppies were taken to the department’s veterinarian for treatment. The injured puppy, named “Ember” by the veterinarian, had burns on her ears, face and other parts of her body.

Ember is improving, the Facebook post said. She has been placed with a foster caretaker.

The owners of the dog had not been identified as of Friday, said Laura Montalvo, an Animal Services spokeswoman.

Animal Services asked that anyone with information about the owners to call 909-384-1304 and reference A563955. Donations to support the dog’s care can be made at the department website at sbcitypets.org.
