Here are the top high school performances from April 8-13

TOPEKA — The spring weather is starting to warm and Topeka-area athletes are in the full swing of their seasons. Great indvidual performances in the capital city are helping their teams succeed at a high level. Here are the top performances from the week of April 8-13.

Boys

Monday, April 8

Camden Horak, Rossville baseball: The senior continues to shred opposing teams from the mound. He struck out 13 batters in six innings of work in Rossville's 3-0 game one victory against Silver Lake. Horak has not allowed a hit this season in 18 innings pitched. He has also struck out 41 batters during this time.

Dysen Schooler, Silver Lake baseball: The infielder led the Eagles with two hits and an RBI in the Eagles' game two 10-3 defeat to Rossville.

Myles Alonzo, Topeka West golf: The junior secured second place in the Manhattan Invitational. Alonzo fired a 76 which was two shots back of first place.

Timothy Lister, Seaman golf: The sophomore was the top golfer for the Vikings as he tied for fifth place in the Manhattan Invitational with a score of 79.

Tadd Armstrong, Washburn Rural golf: The junior tied with Tanner Kasprznk for the best golfer from the Junior Blues in the Manhattan Invitational. The duo both tied for eighth with a round of 81.

Caleb Cleverdon, Topeka High golf: The sophomore led the Trojans with a score of 87 which tied him for 19th place in the Manhattan Invitational.

Grady Bergmann, Silver Lake golf: The sophomore was the top golfer for the Eagles in the Sabetha Invitational. He shot a round of 94 which placed him 24th overall.

Tuesday, April 9

Bryer Finley, Seaman baseball: The senior pitched five innings and allowed just one hit in the Vikings' 10-0 win against Turner. He struck out 12 batters in the win.

Brayden Wheatley, Shawnee Heights baseball: The third baseman led the Thunderbirds with two hits in their 10-3 defeat to Basehor-Linwood.

Tagen Rodriguez, Hayden golf: The junior tied for first place in the Piper Tournament at Dubs Dread. Rodriguez shot a round of 78 which helped Hayden take second place as a team.

Wednesday, April 10

Brady Deutsch, Hayden baseball: The catcher led the Wildcats with three hits and four RBIs in their 14-1 game one victory over Topeka West.

Easton Blosser, Hayden baseball: The pitcher hurled four innings and struck out six batters in Hayden's 11-6 game two win against Topeka West.

Shawnee Heights Deacon Pomeroy struck out nine batters in the Thunderbirds' win against Basehor-Linwood.

Thursday, April 11

Cooper Campidilli, Silver Lake baseball: The catcher drove in three runs and secured two hits in Silver Lake’s 16-0 win against Wabaunsee. 

Trent Harris, Silver Lake baseball: The pitcher tossed six innings and struck out eight batters in Silver Lake’s 12-2 game two victory against Wabaunsee.

Deacon Pomeroy, Shawnee Heights baseball: The Oklahoma State commit pitched a complete game and struck out nine batters in the Thunderbirds’ 6-2 win against Basehor-Linwood. Pomeroy also collected two hits in the batter’s box. 

Armani Vaughn, Highland Park baseball: The outfielder finished with two hits and two RBIs in Highland Park’s 18-8 defeat to J.C. Harmon. Vaughn’s biggest highlight was a triple in the loss. 

Bryce Badsky, Silver Lake golf: The senior fired a round of 76 in the Osage City Invitational. His round placed him second overall and helped the Eagles take the team title. 

Friday, April 12

Drayden Acosta, Topeka High baseball: The third baseman hit the game-winning RBI in the fifth inning as the Trojans won 3-2 over Emporia in game one. 

Nathan Plankinton, Topeka High baseball: The senior secured two RBIs and two hits in the Trojans’ 5-2 win against Emporia in game two. 

Kyle Walker, Washburn Rural: The shortstop finished with two hits and two RBIs in the Junior Blues 9-6 game one victory against Hayden. 

Jack Rosen, Washburn Rural baseball: The second baseman hit three RBIs on two hits in the Junior Blues 14-4 win against Hayden in game two of their doubleheader.

Girls

Monday, April 8

Kendra Cook, Silver Lake softball: The pitcher tossed a complete game and allowed just five hits and one earned run against Silver Lake. She struck out four batters in the Eagles' 12-1 game one victory.

Taylor Zordel, Silver Lake softball: The shortstop hit a grand slam in game two against Rossville. Zordel finished with a game-high six RBIs in Silver Lake's 14-0 win.

KellyAnn Chada, Cair Paravel soccer: Chada scored one goal and finished with three assists in the Lions' 7-0 win against Bishop Seabury.

Raelee Shipley, Topeka High soccer: Shipley scored the lone goal in the Trojans' 2-1 defeat to Lawrence Free State.

Tuesday, April 9

Erika Bovell, Washburn Rural soccer: The freshman striker ran towards the back post during a free kick in the second half against Bishop Carroll. She used her right foot to guide the ball into the back of the net to help the Junior Blues win 1-0.

Mackenzie Flood, Washburn Rural soccer: The goalkeeper came away with some clutch saves including one at full stretch against Bishop Carroll. Flood's performance helped keep the clean sheet in the Junior Blues 1-0 victory.

Savannah Nelson, Seaman soccer: Nelson scored a brace to help the Vikings secure the easy 6-0 win over Piper. 

Avery Rupp, Washburn Rual softball: The first baseman hit a solo home run and finished with two RBIs in the 10-2 game one victory against Hayden.

Makayla Ekis, Washburn Rural softball: The pitcher threw seven innings and allowed just two earned runs in game two against Hayden. Ekis struck out seven batters in Washburn Rural's 4-2 win.

Alaryce Millard, Shawnee Heights softball: The designated hitter shined for the Thunderbirds with a home run and two RBIs in Shawnee Heights 6-2 win against Basehor-Linwood.

Wednesday, April 10

McCall Beall, Topeka High softball: The centerfielder drilled a ball to left field against Life Prep Academy. Beall rounded the bases with her speed and scored the inside-the-park home run in Topeka High's game one 15-0 win.

Taimane Isaia, Topeka High softball: The third baseman had eight RBIs across two games against Life Prep Academy. She led the team with two hits and three RBIs in the Trojans' 16-1 game two victory.

Tauren Walz, Seaman swimming: Walz won the 100-yard backstroke and also came in second place in the 500-yard freestyle in the Topeka West Invitational. She helped the Vikings take second place in the meet.

Thursday, April 11

Kira Lowrey, Silver Lake softball: The third baseman finished with five RBIs and two hits in Silver Lake’s 14-5 win against Shawnee Mission North.

Kendra Cook, Silver Lake softball: The pitcher hurled 6.2 innings in the Eagles’ 6-4 win against Olathe Northwest. Cook gave up just three hits and zero earned runs while she struck out two batters. 

Nora Burdiek, Rossville softball: The freshman hit five RBIs including a home run in the Bulldawgs’ 13-8 game one win against St. Marys. 

Katie Speilman, Rossville softball: The first baseman hit two home runs and knocked home seven RBIs in Rossville’s 18-1 win over St. Marys. 

Avery Rupp, Washburn Rural softball: The first baseman continues her hot hitting streak. She hit a triple and two doubles with three RBIs in the Junior Blues’ 18-7 win against Gardner-Edgerton. 

Micah Williams, Highland Park soccer: The freshman scored a hat trick in the Scots’ 3-2 win over J.C. Harmon. The win pushed Highland Park’s record to 3-4. 

Friday, April 12

Kate Hinck, Washburn Rural soccer: The junior scored two first half goals for the Junior Blues in their 3-0 win over Hayden.

Destiny Higgs, Washburn Rural soccer: Higgs scored the final goal for Washburn Rural as it produced a dominating 3-0 victory against Hayden.

Jo’Mhara Benning, Topeka High softball: The pitcher threw a complete game and allowed just three runs and struck out five batters in the Trojans’ 6-3 win over Shawnee Mission South. 

Taylor Brees, Shawnee Heights softball: The second baseman hit a home run and collected two RBIs in the Thunderbirds’ 11-6 win against Mill Valley. 

Aubrey Warren, Seaman softball: After trailing by three runs in the first inning, the Vikings came from behind to defeat Hayden 8-3. Warren came away with two RBIs with one hit in the win. 

Ahsieyrhuajh Rayton, Topeka High: The freshman dominated the triple jump in the Manhattan Invitational. She reached a mark of 37-feet 8-inches which ranks third best in the state.

Saturday, April 13

Ava Fowler, Washburn Rural softball: The third baseman finished with three hits and six RBIs which included a grand slam against Lawrence High. The Junior Blues took the 20-7 victory. 

Jo’Mhara Benning, Topeka High softball: Benning continues her hot hit streak as she hit a solo home run in the Trojans' narrow 6-4 defeat to Lawrence Free State.
