Northern California forecast: Impact Day Saturday for consistent Valley rain, Sierra snow
SNOW TONIGHT. AND WE DO HAVE TEAM COVERAGE FOR YOU. KCRA THREE’S ORKO MANNA IS LIVE IN POLLOCK PINES WHERE THERE IS LOW SNOW. BUT FIRST WE WANT TO CHECK IN WITH METEOROLOGIST DIRK VERDOORN. YEAH, THE IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER IS WITH THE BUCK MEADOWS VIDEO THAT WE WERE SHOWING YOU LIVE THAT SITS AT ABOUT 3100FT. SO THAT’S RELATIVELY LOW SNOW THAT WE’RE DEALING WITH IN THAT AREA. BUT AS YOU CAN SEE, IT DOESN’T EXTEND TOO FAR NORTH. AND WE HAVE THE BEST SNOW GOING ON RIGHT NOW IN TUOLUMNE COUNTY. YOU SEE UP THE ROAD EAST SONORA HAD A LITTLE BIT OF SNOW. WE’VE BEEN SEEING THIS IN SOULSBYVILLE. WE’VE BEEN SEEING THE SNOW AGAIN IN TWAIN HARTE MI-WUK VILLAGE, GETTING THE SNOW. WE’VE HAD SOME SNOW AROUND GROVELAND AS WELL BEING REPORTED. AND THEN YOU WORK YOUR WAY ALONG HIGHWAY FOUR AS YOU MOVE UP THE ROAD FROM MURPHYS ON TOWARDS AVERY, WE SEE THAT TRANSITION AS WE GO UP THE GRADE AND TOWARDS ARNOLD. AT 4000FT, WHERE WE HAVE SOME SNOW SNOWING FAIRLY STEADY THERE. ALSO NEAR PIONEER ALONG HIGHWAY 88, WE’RE LOOKING AT THAT SNOW ALSO AROUND POLLOCK PINES PINES STILL FALLING. IT LOOKS LIKE IT MAY BE TAPERING OFF JUST A LITTLE BIT AND THEN WE HAVE TO JUMP OVER OR PAST I-80 BECAUSE THERE’S NOT A LOT GOING ON IN I-80. SO AGAIN, PEOPLE TRAVELING OVER I-80 LOOKING PRETTY GOOD INTO PLUMAS COUNTY. WE’RE SEEING A LITTLE BIT OF THAT SNOW MAKING ITS WAY ALONG THE EAST SIDE OF THE AREA. PORTOLA HAD A LITTLE BIT OF THAT AND YOU CAN SEE MAINLY IN THE UPPER ELEVATIONS IS WHERE WE’RE SEEING THE SNOW. THIS IS ALL GOING TO B

KCRA 3 is calling Saturday an Impact Day in Northern California because of how the wet weather is impacting outdoor events and Valley and Sierra travel.When to expect rain and snow in Northern CaliforniaRain Rain showers were heaviest through the morning hours. Isolated thunderstorms were considered a possibility for Saturday afternoon or early evening but they did not come. The foothills saw some of the heaviest rain on Saturday. The mountains have not seen much rain, but some parts of the valley have seen nearly an inch of rain as of 8 p.m. SnowSnow levels may be as low as 4,000 feet on Saturday morning, but those lower elevations should see little to no accumulation. At higher elevations, Sierra passes could see anywhere from 3 to 6 inches of snow during the day on Saturday, with the best snow happening in the late afternoon.By Sunday, there could be lingering showers, though not nearly as many as on Saturday. KCRA 3's Orko Manna Spoke with Pollock Pines residents on Saturday to talk about the snowfall in the Sierra this Spring.While people in Pollock Pines are used to this weather, some have been caught off guard by seeing winterlike conditions at this time of year. “Enough of snow! Enough snow," said Lee Hall. “It’s just unbelievable, you know this weather, we’ve got summertime in about a month and a half, and you don’t like to see really all this cold weather. Hopefully it’s going to move on.”Not everyone in Pollock Pines is ready to move on from the snow quite yet. “I think it’s beautiful and refreshing, I love it. I grew up in the tropics, so I like the change. I love the cold weather. My husband, not so much," Kerryann Combs said jokingly.
