Northern California forecast: Impact Day Saturday for consistent Valley rain, Sierra snow
KCRA 3 is calling Saturday an Impact Day in Northern California because of how the wet weather is impacting outdoor events and Valley and Sierra travel.
When to expect rain and snow in Northern California
Rain
Rain showers were heaviest through the morning hours. Isolated thunderstorms were considered a possibility for Saturday afternoon or early evening but they did not come.
The foothills saw some of the heaviest rain on Saturday.
The mountains have not seen much rain, but some parts of the valley have seen nearly an inch of rain as of 8 p.m.
Snow
Snow levels may be as low as 4,000 feet on Saturday morning, but those lower elevations should see little to no accumulation.
At higher elevations, Sierra passes could see anywhere from 3 to 6 inches of snow during the day on Saturday, with the best snow happening in the late afternoon.
By Sunday, there could be lingering showers, though not nearly as many as on Saturday.
KCRA 3's Orko Manna Spoke with Pollock Pines residents on Saturday to talk about the snowfall in the Sierra this Spring.
While people in Pollock Pines are used to this weather, some have been caught off guard by seeing winterlike conditions at this time of year.
“Enough of snow! Enough snow," said Lee Hall. “It’s just unbelievable, you know this weather, we’ve got summertime in about a month and a half, and you don’t like to see really all this cold weather. Hopefully it’s going to move on.”
Not everyone in Pollock Pines is ready to move on from the snow quite yet.
“I think it’s beautiful and refreshing, I love it. I grew up in the tropics, so I like the change. I love the cold weather. My husband, not so much," Kerryann Combs said jokingly.
