Fighting a fire

Water is sprayed onto a structure fire on Cahuilla Avenue Tuesday, April 9.

TWENTYNINE PALMS — A Twentynine Palms house with an attached garage in the 6200 block of Cahuilla Avenue was called a total loss after an early morning fire Tuesday, April 9, Battalion Chief Donnie Viloria said.

A 911 call at 2:42 a.m. alerted firefighters to the blaze, he reported.

Firefighters, he said, found an abandoned, single-story, residential structure with a well-involved attached garage and the rest of the house charged with thick black smoke.

“Defensive firefighting measures were put into place in an effort to protect nearby exposures and adjacent homes.”

Firefighters from Twentynine Palms, Joshua Tree and Combat Center  extinguished the flames in 30 minutes.

No cause has been determined.
