The Cleveland Cavaliers are currently trying to hang onto the third seed in the Eastern Conference but have hit a bit of a rough patch heading into Sunday’s matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers, having lost seven out of their last 10 games.
Even though it seems inevitable that the Cavs will have one of the top seeds in the East once the NBA playoffs get underway on April 20, Cleveland might not last long in the postseason if they continue to struggle, as they could face some stiff competition.
ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins said, via Twitter, that this team needs to make a choice about who will be leading this team beyond the 2023-24 campaign, as he thinks a decision needs to be made on whether Cleveland runs with Darius Garland or Donovan Mitchell because it doesn’t seem as though they can coexist on the Cavs if the team wants to be successful moving forward.
The @cavs need to make a choice! Because Donovan Mitchell is in Darius Garland way. I’m just saying…

It’ll be interesting to see what happens after this season has come and gone, as there’s been a lot of speculation about Cleveland potentially trading Mitchell elsewhere, as it doesn’t seem like he wants to stay with the team.
The Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks could attempt to trade for Mitchell during the NBA offseason, which will make things interesting for Cleveland as they might be able to get enough of a trade haul to become a deep team around Garland.
Only time will tell how things will pan out in Cleveland, but it seems like there will be a drastic change this summer if they don’t win it all this season.
