SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Earth Day is just around the corner and the city of Sioux Falls is planning to celebrate by hosting a the ninth annual Big Sioux River Greenway Cleanup.

On Saturday, April 20th, people are encouraged to volunteer a few hours of their time to pickup trash and debris from areas surrounding the Big Sioux River Greenway.

“We have picked up and properly disposed of thousands of pounds of trash that could’ve stayed in a river and washed down stream. Great results for efforts people putting into it.”

There will be seven different check-in sites for volunteers to choose from and pickup their gloves, bag and sign a waiver. All ages are welcome but children under 18 should be supervised by an adult.

An Earth Day Festival will be held later that afternoon at Great Bear.
