"I'm kind of getting used to this up here," Dan Hurley said on the championship podium at State Farm Stadium on Monday night. After back-to-back national championships, Hurley and the Huskies have no choice but to get familiar with the view from the top.

UConn executed its gameplan to perfection in a 75-60 win over Purdue to win another title, refusing to let the Boilermakers rattle their confidence in the first half and quickly tightening their grip on the game in the second half. The Huskies won their 12th consecutive NCAA Tournament game by double-digits, a feat almost more remarkable than consecutive titles in such a gauntlet of a tournament.

Zach Edey won the battle with Donovan Clingan early on, but UConn didn't panic. The Huskies trusted their plan, clamped down on Edey's supporting cast, and ultimately pulled away once their interior defense figured out how to handle college basketball's player of the year.

MORE: How UConn's dominance compares to best March Madness runs

UConn became the first team in 17 years to win back-to-back national championships and only the third since the tournament expanded from 32 teams four decades ago.

After a tumultuous handful of years in college basketball that saw legendary coaches Mike Krzyzewski, Jay Wright, Roy Williams, and Jim Boeheim walk away, Hurley has now filled that void. The 51-year-old is a two-time national champion and the author of one of the most dominant two-year runs by any program in modern history. With a fiery personality on the court but an introspective attitude off the court, Hurley will enter the 2024-25 season as the king of the sport.

It takes talented players to win as much as UConn did, and Hurley had no shortage of them. Tristen Newton was named Most Outstanding Player after scoring 20 points in Monday's title game win, cementing his status as a Huskies great.

Between the defense of Clingan and Stephon Castle and the 3-point shooting of Cam Spencer and Alex Karaban, it was hard to find a flaw in this UConn team. Purdue certainly couldn't find one as its championship dream died following a dominant tournament run of its own.

Final: UConn 75, Purdue 60

11:31 p.m. — It's over! UConn has made history, becoming the first team in 17 years to win back-to-back national championships! It's a new era: college basketball runs through Dan Hurley and the Huskies.

11:29 p.m. — Purdue has taken the pressure off a bit, and UConn is going to win its 12th consecutive tournament game by double-digits. A thoroughly dominant run to a historic championship.

11:27 p.m. — UConn is 91 seconds away, still leading by 13.

11:21 p.m. — Hurley gets called for touching his own player, Cam Spencer, during an active possession. So that's something. Purdue has the deficit down to 13, but there are less than three minutes remaining.

11:20 p.m. — Edey has 31 points, but he's not going to walk away from this game with positive feelings. Purdue hasn't gotten enough out of his supporting cast, and part of that is the Boilermakers' reluctance

11:15 p.m. — UConn is 3:50 away from a title, now up 16. There isn't much Purdue can do at this point, and Edey missing shots certainly doesn't help the Boilermakers' cause.

11:09 p.m. — Just like that, UConn pushes the lead back to 17. The Huskies are dominating the offensive boards, and no team can expect to give up all those second chances to UConn and still win.

11:07 p.m. — Purdue is doing all it can to make this competitive, with an Edey dunk trimming the deficit to 13. Clingan is off the floor in foul trouble.

11:03 p.m. — Purdue was fortunate to not to go down by 20 after Stephon Castle's wide-open 3-point attempt rimmed out. The Huskies are in total control, to the point that Donovan Clingan's fourth foul is barely a blip in this game.

10:58 p.m. — Hassan Diarra gets to the rim and extends the Huskies' lead to 16. UConn is coasting to another national championship.

10:57 p.m. — UConn's lead hits 14 on an Alex Karaban three.

10:54 p.m. — Edey is a complete mess right now, as he follows up an air-balled free throw with a travel on what should've been a quick two points for Purdue. The Boilermakers only have eight points in the half.

10:50 p.m. — Newton drives to the rim and gets past Edey to put UConn back up by 13. He's been terrific in back-to-back title games.

10:47 p.m. — The Boilermakers get a bit of momentum back after a goaltending call goes against Clingan. UConn still leads by nine.

10:46 p.m. — Purdue is getting out-rebounded 25-18, which probably shouldn't happen with a presence like Edey on the floor.

10:43 p.m. — Samson Johnson does what he does best and dunks it to extend UConn's lead to 11. Mason Gillis badly missed a 3-pointer on the other end. The second half of this game is looking much like the second half of last year's title game.

10:38 p.m. — There's a momentum swing for Purdue, as the Huskies miss back-to-back free throws and the Boilermakers get a huge putback dunk out of Camden Heide.

10:36 p.m. — All of the momentum is with UConn right now after an offensive foul by Kaufman-Renn. The Huskies lead by nine, and the pro-Purdue crowd has quieted down.

10:34 p.m. — Newton drills a three to start the half, and this is becoming a problem for a Purdue team that hasn't exactly engineered its gameplan around threes. The Boilermakers could be staring down a double-digit deficit.

10:33 p.m. — We are back in action...

End of first half: UConn 36, Purdue 30

10:11 p.m. — Purdue put together a solid half, but UConn is in control and leads by six after a strong finish on both ends of the floor.

10:10 p.m. — UConn regains control with back-to-back buckets out of a timeout. The Huskies now lead 36-30.

10:02 p.m. — Smith buries a contested three, and that's exactly what Purdue needs. The Boilermakers now trail by only two.

10:01 p.m. — Stephon Castle extends UConn's lead to seven out of the timeout.

9:57 p.m. — Fletcher Loyer turns it over ahead of the under-4 timeout, and UConn has a chance to really take control of this game before halftime.

9:55 p.m. — Newton takes it to the rim and scores to give UConn its first multi-possession lead of the night, following up a big Clingan bucket. The Huskies are up 30-25.

9:53 p.m. — Edey tips in a miss by Braden Smith, and Dan Hurley is animated on the sidelines believing it was basket interference.

9:52 p.m. — Edey briefly subs out, and Clingan quickly takes advantage on the other end with a three-point play.

9:48 p.m. — We go to the under-8 timeout tied at 23. This has been a fun one so far.

9:47 p.m. — Edey scores over Clingan again and extends this to a 5-0 run for Purdue. In a game like this, that's significant.

9:44 p.m. — Braden Smith drives to the hoop to tie the game at 21, shortly after Edey sinks one of two free throws.

9:43 p.m. — Hassan Diarra drills an open three to put UConn up 21-18. Purdue has played well, but threes are worth more than twos and the Boilermakers don't have one yet.

9:38 p.m. — A foul on UConn sends this one to the under-12 timeout. Huskies lead 18-16, but Edey is looking as confident as he can possibly be.

9:37 p.m. — Now Edey drives in and gets the and-one opportunity. He has 11 of Purdue's 16 points.

9:36 p.m. — Edey is toying with Clingan like no big man has in this tournament, yet Purdue still trails 16-13. That's how perfect a team has to play to beat UConn.

9:34 p.m. — Edey with TWO blocks on the same possession. He's using every bit of his frame to his advantage.

9:33 p.m. — Edey dunks to tie it back up at 11, but Tristen Newton calmly drills a three on the other end. UConn can score in so many ways.

9:29 p.m. — Cam Spencer has seven of UConn's first 11 points. UConn leads 11-9 at the under-16 timeout.

9:27 p.m. — Edey has his first bucket of the night to even the score at seven.

9:26 p.m. — Clingan picks up his first block of the night. He had every bit of the size advantage against Trey Kaufman-Renn.

9:25 p.m. — Lance Jones impressively drives to the rim and gets an and-one opportunity. He completes the 3-point play. That's the first foul on Tristen Newton.

9:24 p.m. — Cam Spencer drills a three for UConn's first points of the night. 3-2, Huskies.

9:23 p.m. — The night starts with Edey missing on a shot tightly defended by Clingan, but Alex Karaban misses on the other end.

9:21 p.m. — And here we go! Purdue wins the opening tip.

9:14 p.m. — The national anthem is done, introductions are starting up, and we are minutes away from basketball. Purdue is the first to be introduced at State Farm Stadium.

9:08 p.m. — Drew Brees!

9:02 p.m. — Terry Crews is featured in TBS' intro for the title game, and we are less than 20 minutes away from tip-off.

8:47 p.m. — UConn fans travel well, but it sure sounds like Purdue fans have taken over State Farm Stadium.

8:30 p.m. — And the other side of the Edey-Clingan matchup...

8:20 p.m. — Zach Edey is ready to roll ahead of the biggest game of his life.

7:50 p.m. — These are two teams that didn't rely as heavily on transfers as other contenders, but they still might not be here without them. Newton and Cam Spencer both came in from other programs for the Huskies, while Lance Jones is Purdue's only starter who transferred in.

7:25 p.m. — A handful of UConn players can became two-time champions tonight, including Tristen Newton, Alex Karaban and Donovan Clingan. Newton was the unsung hero of last year's title run.

7:05 p.m. — Meanwhile, Purdue will be donning black for the first time in this tournament.

6:40 p.m. — As the No. 1 overall seed, UConn will once again be wearing its clean white uniforms.

6:20 p.m. — "They'll be back" is a common phrase any time a new program on the scene loses a title game, but it rarely rings true. While Matt Painter has built quite a brotherhood at Purdue, this could be the Boilermakers' only chance to win an NCAA Tournament.

6:00 p.m. — Dan Hurley said Zach Edey is "obviously" the best college basketball player he's seen. Whether Edey will give Donovan Clingan difficulty tonight will potentially be the game's biggest storyline.

5:30 p.m. — Matt Painter praised UConn's depth and defensive scheme ahead of tonight's matchup, arguing that the Huskies seem to get better when they start subbing in players from their bench.
