A 20-year-old is charged with involuntary manslaughter after accidentally shooting a 17-year-old at a Phoenix Street apartment, according to police.
Trave’on J. Johnson, 17, of Greenwood, was shot and killed at Phoenix Place Apartments on Wednesday night. Sonny Cox, Greenwood County coroner, said Johnson died at Self Regional Medical Center at 11:41 p.m.
Je’von Amari Williams, 20, is facing an involuntary manslaughter charge after police say he accidentally shot Johnson.
Just after 9 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to Phoenix Place Apartments. Chaudoin said at the scene several people in the parking lot were carrying Johnson, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body, down the steps of one of the apartment buildings.
Johnson was taken to Self Regional Medical Center.
Chaudoin added Johnson and Williams did know each other, but details on what led to the shooting are still under investigation.
