A new government study shows 25% of American adults still have lingering issues after COVID-19, including blood clots which can turn deadly.

MedHelp Clinics CEO Dr. Jordan Vaughn joined The National Desk’s Jan Jeffcoat to discuss the issue.

“May-Thurner is an area of the body, especially in the pelvic venous area, that has the iliac vein lacking good venous return,” he said. “When that happens, you have a greater likelihood that somebody is going to have venous spaces or lack of vein or blood movement.”

This recently came back into the headlines with Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Boebert, who underwent surgery last Tuesday to remove a blood clot and was subsequently diagnosed with May-Thurner syndrome.

The symptoms of May-Thurner include leg heaviness or leg swelling.

“You combine that with things like a hyper-coagulant state or damage to the inside of the vessels, both of which COVID does,” Vaughn said. “You meet all the criteria, the three criteria we usually have to produce blood clots, lack of blood movement, hyper-coagulant ability and damage to the vessel.”
