“The Hunger Games” is a film franchise based on the books of the same name by American author Suzanne Collins. The franchise includes four movies led by Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen – “The Hunger Games” (2012), “Catching Fire” (2013), “Mockingjay – Part 1” (2014) and “Mockingjay – Part 2” (2015) – and one prequel film, “The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” (2023), starring Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird. The franchise is set in the fictional world of Panem, where society has broken off into separate districts. To appease the rich citizens of the Capitol and to ensure the population adheres to government control, members of each district are selected annually to compete in The Hunger Games, in which contestants are forced to murder each other to survive. 

Collectively, the first four movies in the franchise grossed $2.9 billion at the worldwide box office. With its $158 million debut, “Catching Fire” set a record for the biggest November opening of all time at the domestic box office. It was later surpassed by “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” in 2022. The franchise made a global superstar out of Jennifer Lawrence, who was Oscar-nominated for “Winter’s Bone” before taking on the role of Katniss. The franchise’s supporting cast included Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland. Rachel Zegler is joined in the prequel film by Tom Blyth, Josh Andrés Rivera, Hunter Schafer, Jason Schwartzman, Peter Dinklage and Viola Davis.
