St. Pete Police: Woman allows child to ingest cocaine, claws other child

Laquita Owens was arrested and booked into the Pinellas County Jail on Friday.

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — St. Petersburg police arrested a woman after she allegedly let a 6-year-old ingest cocaine and clawed an 11-year-old.

Laquita Owens, 33, got upset with the 11-year-old girl and pinched her side and clawed at her chest, according to the arrest report. St. Petersburg Police said she had visible injuries and is scarred. 

The affidavit said Owens also was not supervising the 6-year-old child when she ingested cocaine she found in Owens' bedroom. The child was transported to a hospital where they found cocaine in her system. She told police she ate pills from the bedroom, according to court records.

Police said Owens admitted to having drugs in her home.

She was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on Friday afternoon on felony charges of child neglect and child abuse. She's being held on a $55,000 bond and is not allowed to contact the 11-year-old.
