The calm of an academic day was shattered when Eastern Michigan University was hit with a bomb threat that triggered the evacuation of multiple buildings. The Eastern Michigan University police responded to the threat on Tuesday, pushing for immediate action across campus, according to officials.

Students and staff were urged to leave the buildings "immediately" via "the nearest exits and stairways," a statement on the school's police department website read. The initial alert singled out Wise, Buell, and Putnam Halls, with subsequent information by The Detroit News indicating additional locations were at risk.

Further developments reported by WOOD-TV highlighted the expanded evacuation order to include Walton, Sellers, Phelps, Best, Downing, Eateries, and DC1 Halls. The university's police department labeled the incident as a bomb threat but refrained from disclosing further specifics.

While the scare caused substantial disruption, some relief came as around 1:45 p.m., two of the three originally targeted residence halls were cleared, with "nothing dangerous found," as a social media post by the university stated. The remaining buildings continued under inspection, with a Marriott hotel in Ypsilanti also implicated in the scare—a location that had been the focus of a previous bomb threat just days prior.

Despite the tension gripping the campus, no immediate guidance was provided on where students and staff should reconvene post-evacuation. However, the police assured the university community that updates would be provided when available.
