A man is dead and five people, including two young boys, are injured after a shooting Wednesday evening in the Carver/Langston neighborhood in Northeast D.C., according to Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officials.

7News was on the scene as MPD officials shared updates on the shooting. Watch below:

According to MPD Chief Pamela Smith, officers responded to the 1100 block of 21st Street, Northeast around 6:10 p.m. after multiple 911 calls.

When they arrived, officers found multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds. One man was pronounced dead on the scene, according to officials. He has been identified as 29-year-old Aubrey McLeod of Largo, Md.

Two men, one woman, and a 9-year-old boy were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

Later, a 12-year-old boy walked into a hospital with gunshot wounds, Smith said. The boy’s injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

“This is another example and I’ve been here before in this space of violence that we just cannot accept in our communities,” said Smith.

A preliminary investigation revealed that two suspects got out of a vehicle and started shooting at people in the neighborhood, according to the chief.

“Our real time crime center began investigating and provided images from cameras in the area to aid in this investigation,” said Smith.

A lookout was issued for a light blue Toyota Sedan with paper tags in the back and no front tags, officials said. The suspects’ car had dark tints, and a spare tire on the front passenger side.

The car was last seen heading eastbound on Maryland Avenue Northeast. A video posted on social media captured the car speeding through the city as police trailed behind it.

A source familiar with the case told 7News the car seen in the video is the same car that D.C. police are searching for in connection with the shooting.

“We are working tirelessly to really help remove some of these illegal guns that are on our streets. We’re working with our ATFs and we’re working with some of our task force. What we’re seeing is the increase of guns in the district and we’re doing everything we can to ensure that we’re removing these guns off of our streets," said Smith.

“We’ve gotten to a point in our city, the people who are committing crimes, they feel empowered to not even wait until the cover of darkness,” said ANC Commissioner Kathy Henderson.

Henderson spent time with the victim’s families soon after the shooting.

“They’re good people, kind people. Human beings just like us,” she said. “They need answers, there needs to be a process that immediately identifies the family, embraces the family, reassures the family and informs the family about next steps- where their loved one is in the hospital.”

Henderson wants the community to remain calm.

“We’re going to wait for the administration of justice, so I don’t want to see any retaliatory efforts, I want people to believe in the system the system works,” she said.
