Rain and snow could linger into Sunday in Sacramento region, so prepare for slick roads

The National Weather Service reported that the Sacramento region can expect rain, snow, gusty winds and even some isolated thunderstorms today and lingering into Sunday.

Sacramento meteorologist Idamis Shoemaker said that a weak weather system will bring 1/2 to 1 inch of rain in the valley and 1-2 inches of mountain snow along both the Interstate 80 and Highway 50 corridors. She said they expect higher amounts of snow south of Hwy. 50.

High temperatures in the Sacramento valley will hover in the 50s, but in the mountains, the highs could be 10-20 degrees lower this weekend.

The probability of thunderstorms is 10%-20%, according to the weather service, and they’re expected in the late afternoon and evening.

Motorists should be prepared for slick driving conditions, chain controls and potentially travel delays, the agency warned.
