Comic Con kicks off with art, exhibits, cosplays

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Looking for something fun to do this weekend? El Paso Comic Con is back in the Borderland from Friday, April 12 through Sunday, April 14 at the El Paso Convention Center.

The event features an exciting line-up of guests, vendors, cosplay competitions and more, making the perfect environment for all ages.

KTSM spoke with three different exhibitors who gave an insight into what Comic Con means to them.

Texas Regional Response Team

Michael Head is an educator at EPCC who’s also a part of the Ghostbusters Texas Regional Response Team, which is stationed in El Paso.

Head said the team does charity events and also makes fan films. The team has been part of Comic Con for a lot of years. It goes back before Covid.

“What I like the most about this event is seeing the group of people get together. It’s about everybody kind of being in the same page and enjoying,” Head said.

A-Team Van

Marko Stoyanof is an exhibitor from Albuquerque who said it’s his hobby to go to conventions with his A-Team Van replica and all his mannequins he built over the years.

Stoyanof said he’s been part of Comic Con for eight years and he’s been doing this for 10 years in total.

Blackened Art

Ralph and Stephanie Reyes are a married couple from Las Cruces who make horror art in coffin shelves.

The couple said they’ve been doing art for 10 years, and this is their fourth year at El Paso Comic Con.

“We started with six pictures and now we have a good 400 pieces at any time. Everything’s hand painted and we don’t make copies of our work,” Ralph Reyes said.

Comic Con continues from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 13 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 14.
