An armed home invasion in Sayville was a targeted attack, according to Suffolk County police. Investigators say a card game was underway when the incident happened, which ended with a man getting shot.
Police say two men with masks barged into the home on Greenbrier Lane at around 11:40 p.m. Sunday. One of them was armed with a gun.
According to investigators, 11 people were around a table playing cards. They were held at gunpoint and robbed of cash, jewelry and cellphones.
Police say a 12th person walked through the door and was shot twice by one of the alleged thieves. The 38-year-old man was taken the hospital and is expected to survive.
No arrests have been made.
Police would not provide further details about the card game at a news conference Monday afternoon. Investigators say the homeowner is cooperating.
