Suspects identified in April 12 New Iberia homicide

UPDATE, 4/15/24, 9 a.m.: Detectives have obtained arrest warrants for two people in connection with the incident that led to the fatal shooting on Easy Street, authorities said.

Ja’Quan Dureil James Johnson, 27, is wanted for first degree murder and armed robbery with a firearm.

Jeremy Jermaine Jenkins, 42, is wanted for letting a disorderly place, gambling and obstruction of justice.

This is an ongoing investigation and additional warrants are likely, authorities said.

Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Johnson or Jenkins is urged to contact law enforcement immediately. Johnson is considered armed and dangerous.

ORIGINAL STORY: NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY) — One person is dead and another wounded in two separate shootings in New Iberia, authorities said.

New Iberia Police responded just after midnight this morning to a report of a shooting at an establishment in the 1400 block of Easy Street.

Upon arrival, officers located a male inside the establishment suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said. Acadian Ambulance responded to the scene, where the victim was pronounced dead. No other details were released.

Previously, at around 9:20 p.m. Thursday, New Iberia Police responded to a shooting in the 400 block of East Washington Street, where officers found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a Lafayette hospital with moderate injuries.

Both investigations are in the early stages. At this point it does not appear the two incidents are related, police said.
