Rockies vs Blue Jays Prediction, Picks, and Odds for Today's MLB Game

Looking to get back to .500 for the fifth time already this season, the Blue Jays are turning to Jose Berrios. He's been excellent to start 2024 and with the help of Justin Turner's bat, should help the Jays cash in.

The Toronto Blue Jays will try to win consecutive series for the first time this season when they host the Colorado Rockies in the rubber match of their three-game set on Sunday.

Colorado opened the series with a 12-4 thrashing of the home team at Rogers Centre before the Jays countered with a 5-3 win Saturday. The Jays are a -250 moneyline favorite in the MLB odds today.

Toronto will send Jose Berrios to the mound in search of his third win of the season, while the Rockies will counter with lefty Kyle Freeland, seeking his first win of the campaign.

Rockies vs Blue Jays prediction

My best bet
Under 8.5 (-118 at PROLINE+)

My analysis
Since an opening-season win, the Toronto Blue Jays have not been above .500 this season. Sunday’s matinee at Rogers Centre will be the fifth time they’ll try to reach the break-even mark. And while that may be good enough to have you in the chase for the top in other divisions (hello, AL West!), Toronto is the only team with a losing record in the ultra-competitive AL East.

This offense has been in an early-season funk, tied for 22nd in the majors in runs scored with 56 through 15 games. They’re also outside the Top 20 in hits (110), batting average (.224), and slugging (.362).

Perhaps Toronto starter Jose Berrios can help them along. The righty has gone 6+ innings in each of his three starts and his 1.45 ERA is tied for 14th in MLB. More importantly, the Jays are 3-0 in his starts this season.

He'll face a challenge from the Colorado Rockies, who — despite owning the second-worst record in baseball at 4-11 — have been above average with the bats, though that hasn’t translated to runs crossing home plate (15th in runs scored).

Still, Colorado ranks inside the Top 10 in hits, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging, and OPS. Unfortunately for them, their pitching staff can’t support the hitting. The Rockies own an MLB-worst 6.33 team ERA, allowing teams to hit a blistering .297 against them.

To put that in perspective, only one other team is allowing opponents to hit even in the .270 range. Their 154 hits and 98 runs allowed are also the worst marks in the Big Leagues.

While that should help get the Toronto bats going, they won’t need much the way Berrios has been dealing in the early going. Toronto has seen the Under hit in four of the previous five, while Colorado has gone Under the total in four of its last six.

Blue Jays star player prop

My best bet
Justin Turner Over 0.5 RBI (+100 at PROLINE+)

Justin Turner sat out Saturday’s tilt against the Rockies but should be back in the order when the Jays face the lefty Freeland.

Freeland finally got things under control in his third start of the year, pitching five innings of 6-hit ball and surrendering two earned runs despite not getting a decision in a 7-5 win over Arizona. Prior to that, he was bombed, surrendering 17 earned runs in losses to the Cubs and Diamondbacks.

Enter Turner, who despite five total RBI this season — and four in one game — is the target of this RBI prop. He's the only Jay with legit plate experience against the Rockies starter. His 48 at-bats are 3x more than the four other Toronto players combined that have stood in the batter's box against Freeland.

Turner’s made some hay too. He’s hitting .333 in those at-bats, including three doubles and three RBI. While also a small sample, Turner’s been teeing off against lefties this season, with five hits in seven at-bats, hitting .714 with three RBI.
