AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department said a death investigation is underway after a man’s body was pulled from Lady Bird Lake over the weekend. According to police, the incident was not being investigated as a homicide.

Around 7:38 a.m., APD officers responded to a check welfare call in the 500 block of South Pleasant Valley Road.

When officers arrived on the scene, they “found the body of an unidentified Black male,” APD said in a statement to KXAN.

According to police, a fisherman found an unknown person floating in the water. That person was later pronounced dead at 7:52 a.m.

Maps of the incident showed the searched area was near Longhorn Dam.

The cause of death, which remained under investigation by police Monday, will “be determined by the Travis County medical examiner following their autopsy report,” according to police.

No other details were released on Monday.
