An 11-year-old boy from the Aroostook County town of Chapman died on Monday night after the snowmobile he was driving crashed into the corner of his garage, Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife spokesperson Mark Latti said in a news release.

The boy, whose name has not been released, was driving a 2019 Polaris snowmobile at about 7:30 p.m. over a field to store it in the garage when he hit the garage at high speed. He was not wearing a helmet, Latti said.

Emergency personnel went to the home and attempted life-saving measures, but the boy died at a little after 8 p.m.

Chapman is southwest of, and borders Presque Isle.
