The man who was shot to death in the triple-shooting Sunday night in the Jersey City Heights has been identified as a 25-year-old city man.

Freddie Posey and another victim, a 30-year-old woman, were shot on Central Avenue near Bowers Street, at approximately 9 p.m. and both were taken to the Jersey City Medical Center. Posey was pronounced dead at 9:30 p.m., while the woman was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg that was not considered life-threatening.

The shooting was initially reported as a double-shooting, but a third shooting victim, a 24-year-old Jersey City man, was taken to University Hospital in Newark in a private vehicle. He was treated for an injury that was not considered life-threatening, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said.

The shooting incident brought the total of people shot in the city to five over the weekend. Two people were shot in the area of Oak Street and Martin Luther King Drive early Saturday morning, police said in radio transmissions. Jersey City officials have not responded with more information on that incident.

The triple-shooting is being investigated by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department. It is the second homicide in Jersey City this year. According to statistics provided on the Jersey City website, there were five shootings incidents, with eight victims, through March 31.
