Danville home destroyed in two-alarm fire

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A Danville home was written off as a total loss following a two-alarm fire Thursday morning.

The fire happened in the area of Commercial and College Streets around 7:30 a.m. Jerry Sparks, Assistant Chief of the Danville Fire Department, was the incident commander of the fire. He said the fire started in the basement and advanced into the attic.

Sparks said the fire was difficult to battle, with firefighters unable to make entry, but he said they did a good job in battling the fire from outside the home. A total of 17 fire personnel were dispatched to the home, and they remained on the scene until 1:30 p.m.

Sparks added that the home was owned by someone living in another home nearby, but they were not at the burned home when the fire started. No civilians or firefighters were hurt.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
