The FBI is now offering a $40,000 reward in hopes of generating new leads in an unsolved case out of Vermont.
Brianna Maitland was 17 when she vanished on March 19, 2004. Maitland was last seen finishing her shift at the Black Lantern Inn in Montgomery, Vermont, before she disappeared.
Her car was later discovered in the back of an abandoned building.
“Someone out there may have information that can help solve this case. It's been too long, and it's time to come forward,” Craig Tremaroli, special agent, FBI Albany field office, said.
Investigators said there have been no reported sightings of her in more than 15 years.
“This is not a cold case. This is an unsolved case and one that we are hoping that today’s announcement of a significant financial reward for information will help change that,” Tremaroli said.
Over the years, Maitland’s case has been compared to Maura Murray's disappearance. Murray disappeared in northern New Hampshire one month before Maitland.
Police said it's an angle they've considered throughout the investigation.
"You know, I can't talk to too deep about the case, but we're cognizant that that's an angle. And we've interviewed a number of people involved,” Maj. Dan Trudeau, Major Crimes, Vermont State Police, said.
The FBI says no tip is too small. Anyone with information about Maitland’s case is asked to call 1-800-CALL-FBI.
