Omaha fire crews attacked flames from outside the vacant building

NEWSWATCH SEVEN. FIRST NEWS STARTS WITH BREAKING NEWS AND THAT BREAKING NEWS IS NEAR MIDTOWN OMAHA FIRE CREWS CALL A SECOND ALARM BATTLING A BUILDING BLAZE. KETV NEWSWATCH SEVEN’S KALE SEARCY IS LIVE ON SCENE NEAR 26TH AND HARNEY STREETS. KALE. WHAT CAN YOU TELL US? MELISSA AND JACK. THE FIRE HAS BEEN CONTAINED HERE AT 26 AND HARNEY JUST A SMALL CLOUD OF SMOKE REMAINS. NOW FIRE CREWS ARE STILL HERE MONITORING THE BUILDING. AND IF YOU CAN HEAR AND SEE, THEY’RE STILL PUMPING WATER INSIDE. NOW, BECAUSE THE FIRE WAS SO MASSIVE, CREWS COULDN’T GET INSIDE THE BUILDING JUST BEFORE 4 A.M., THE FIRST CALL CAME OUT, A LOCAL BUSINESS. SEEING THE FLAMES COME FROM THE BUILDING WITHIN MINUTES, A SECOND ALARM BROUGHT EVEN MORE FIRE CREWS TO THE SCENE. NOW HERE’S VIDEO FROM THE BLAZE TAKING OVER THIS VACANT BUILDING. THE OMAHA FIRE DEPARTMENT SAYS THEY BEGAN FIGHTING THE FLAMES DEFENSIVELY, KEEPING CREWS ON THE SIDELINES BUT ROLLING IN THE LADDER TRUCK TO KNOCK DOWN THE FIRE. WE CAN GET UP HIGH. FIRE WAS ALREADY THROUGH THE ROOF SO WE CAN GET THAT WATER RIGHT THROUGH THE ROOF, DOWN ONTO THE FIRE AND THE LADDER TRUCKS PUT OUT A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF WATER, WHICH REALLY HELPS IN THIS SITUATION. A-F-D SAYS IT’S UNCLEAR WHAT CAUSED THE FIRE, BUT THERE WAS A DOWNED POWER LINE NEAR THE BUILDING. NOW. NO INJURIES HAVE BEEN REPORTED FROM ANYONE INSIDE OR ANY FIRE CREWS THAT ARE HERE NOW. SEVERAL FIRE CREWS HAVE WENT BACK INTO SERVICE, BUT THEY, LIKE YOU SEE BEHIND ME. THEY’RE CONTINUING TO MONITOR THE BUILDING, CONTINUING TO PUMP IN WATER TO ENSURE THOSE FLAMES DON’T START BACK U

Omaha fire crews attacked flames from outside the vacant building

Omaha firefighters battled a large blaze at a vacant building near Midtown. Crews were first called to the building near 26th and Harney streets just before 4 a.m. Monday. Firefighters quickly called for a second alarm and worked to extinguish flames from outside and overhead the building. Crews contained the fire by 5 a.m. Video from the KETV NewsWatch 7 Skycam Network shows the roof collapsed into the building. There are no reported injuries.
