COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - A Walterboro woman has been charged in connection with an April 3 fatal hit-and-run between a car and a bicycle.

Jessica Dawn Simpson, 34, is charged with hit and run involving death after troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said she struck a bicycle in a 2017 Nissan Rogue.

The original collision happened on Highway 64 around 3 p.m. that day. The bicyclist was traveling west, approximately three miles away from Williams, when Simpson allegedly crashed into them from behind and then left the scene.

The cyclist died from injuries sustained in that crash. The Colleton County Coroner’s Office has now identified the victim as 77-year-old Charles Henry Folks of Lodge.

Troopers asked for the public’s assistance Thursday and released a photo of the car involved in the accident, noting that it should have damage to the passenger side and its mirror.
