The Montreal Canadiens have avoided a potential disaster... at least so it would seem.

After 4 years at Boston University there were some questions about the future of Montreal Canadiens prospect Luke Tuch, the younger brother of National Hockey League star Alex Tuch, specifically as it pertains to Tuch's future in the NHL.

Tuch was selected in the 2nd round (47th overall) of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft by the Canadiens but an extended stay at Boston University has left open the possibility that Tuch could seek to become an unrestricted free agent, as players like NHL forward Jimmy Vesey have done in the past.

On Saturday night, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman indicated that Tuch's future was still very much up in the air.

"I understand that Tuch's decision is coming around the next 24 hours whether to sign with the Canadiens or test free agency," said Friedman. "I can't handicap it but it is coming."

That is of course not what you want to hear as a fan of the Montreal Canadiens, but thankfully it sounds as though Tuch's final decision has gone in their favor. On Sunday, Elliotte Friedman updated his reporting by indicating his belief that Tuch and the Habs will come to a resolution on his entry level contract.

The big question now will surround whether or not Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes will have to burn a year off of Tuch's entry level contract in order to get him signed.
