Cher and Meryl Streep reunite after 40 years and wear matching outfits from past

Celebrity pals Cher and Meryl Streep have recreated their iconic photograph more than 40 years since it was taken, as they were reunited at a music awards show.

The pair was seen catching up as they attended the iHeartRadio Music Awards on Monday (April 1), where Meryl joined Cher on stage to present her with an award. Cher, 77, and Meryl, 74, appeared to barely have aged as they embraced on stage and showed their friendship has stood the test of time.

As Meryl presented her longtime friend with the award, she told the audience: "Cher has had a number one record in every one of the last seven decades. She’s the only woman in US history to have done that. What does it take to have those kind of legs? We all want to know. It’s not 15 minutes of fame anymore, you’re lucky if you get seven seconds of someone’s fractured attention, never mind seven decades."

She continued: "It takes talent but more than that, I think it takes heart. When I think of Cher, I think of her giant heart. How open it is, how battered it is, and how strong it is. How she leads with her heart in everything she does – her acting, her singing, her dancing, her dressing. She just puts it all out there."

Responding to the kind words, Cher joked: "There are people who say, 'Doesn't that b**ch have more than one pair of pants?' I've had these pants for 40 years. I thought we should come here and accept this award together.

The pair also posed for a snap offstage, which looked very similar to one Meryl and Cher took at the premiere for their film, Silkwood, in 1983. Even the friends outfits were eerily similar with Meryl wearing white alongside Cher's black outfit. In the previous iconic snap, the pair also chose their cream and black outfits.

Sharing the snap on social media, fans flocked to the picture as they praised the pair. One person wrote: "There is 40 years between these photos of Meryl Streep and Cher."
