New girls 800-meter state record-holder Omaha Westside's Stella Miner is one of five Nebraska high school athletes who begin the week among the national top-20 in their track and field events.
Miner is tied for 10th after her hand-held 2:07.5 at Friday’s Titan Invitational at Papillion-La Vista Stadium. She topped the 2:08.6, also hand-held, by future Olympian Alice Schmidt of Elkhorn at the 1999 Blair Invitational.
The future Kansas State middle-distance runner now owns two state records after setting the 1,600 mark at 4:47.49 at the Warriors’ home invitational on March 30. She also leads the state in the 400 at 56.92.
She’s 16th nationally in the 1,600.
Sidney's Karsyn Leeling added another half-inch to her nation-leading and state record girls high jump mark. The Husker signee cleared 6-1½ at Saturday’s Alliance Invitational.
