Makoto Shinkai is currently considered one of the most important filmmakers in the world of animation and his great works of art for the big screen support this recognition. The director, who was behind the successful Your Name and El tiempo contigo, embarks on the seventh adventure of his filmography: Suzume no Tojimari. With a release scheduled in Japan for November 11 of this year, the anime film revealed its first trailer.

The story is about Suzume, a 17-year-old girl who spends her days in her hometown located in the Kyushu region. The monotonous routine of his life changes when he meets a young man who is looking for a door and, suddenly, both end up finding a very old one in an abandoned house. A strange sensation begins to take hold of her, as she is being dragged into what is inside. How can he free himself from this magic?

The preview of Suzume no Tojimari enjoys fantastic elements, action and a lot, but a lot of mystery. This time, we will meet the Gates of Disaster, a series of portals that open throughout Japan when terrible events occur. To avoid further misfortunes, the protagonist begins a journey throughout the country to close all the doors that are open and thus save everyone from a possible disaster.

Makoto Shinkai's new project began in early 2020 and even though the production took place during the pandemic, it was possible to complete it in time for it to be released very soon. However, for the director, the experience of creation in a context of health crisis has influenced his vision to capture this idea and surrounds the post-apocalyptic genre, rather than the distance from his other titles.

The mind behind Your Name and more wonderful stories

In 2004, the Japanese director made his animated film debut with The Place We Promised and has not stopped working on various films until today. Later, he gained much more notoriety with 5cm per second (2007), Journey to Agartha (2011) and The Garden of Words (2013). The best moment for his career came in 2016 with the release of Your Name (Kimi no Na wa), the acclaimed film that ranked as the third highest grossing film in the history of anime and currently ranks only below the Oscar-winning The Journey of Chihiro and Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Ressha-hen.

In 2019, Makoto Shinkai presented Time with You, however, this proposal failed to equate with the success of its predecessor. Three years after the release of his last film, the writer and cartoonist seeks to surprise the world with Suzume no Tojimari, which could already be said to have a first-rate animation. All that remains is to wait for it to be screened in Japanese cinemas from November 11 and that, soon, it can be seen in Latin America.
