William Brock, an 81-year-old Clark County resident, has been charged with murder following a fatal interaction at his home.

Clark County Sheriffs responded to a home in the 7000 block of South Charleston-Clifton Road after the Clark County Communications Center received a 911 call from the address in which the resident claimed to have shot someone attempting to rob him, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office via WKEF TV

First responders discovered a woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The woman was later identified as 61-year-old Loletha Hall.

Crews made contact with Brock, who was identified as the caller and who had sustained injuries to his head and ear.

The reason William Brock claims he shot Loletha Hall

Initial investigations revealed Brock had been the subject of a scam call regarding an incarcerated relative. The caller made threats and demanded money, according to WKEF.

Hall, an Uber driver, was also the victim of a scam call from the same caller or an accomplice instructing her to retrieve a package from Brock’s residence through the Uber app.

Hall arrived at Brock’s residence and asked about the package, at which point Brock pulled out a gun, held Hall at gunpoint and demanded she reveal the identity of the caller who first contacted him.

Investigators said Brock took Hall’s phone to prevent her from making calls and refused to let her leave the scene.

Brock did not attempt to call 911 during the encounter or seek other assistance, WKEF reports.

When Hall attempted to re-enter her vehicle, Brock shot her. He chased after her, at which point he was injured and shot Hall another time before firing a third time, after which time he called 911 for help.

First responders transported Hall to Miami Valley Hospital. She died from her wounds while in surgery.

Due to there being no active threat presented by Hall at any time during the encounter, and Brock’s failure to contact authorities for assistance while brandishing a firearm, during which he fired at and struck Hall multiple times, he was arrested and charged with murder.

The original scam call to Brock and Hall is still under investigation by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
