BTS's J-Hope breaks chart records in U.S., Britain for EP 'Hope on the Street Vol.1.'

J-Hope of BTS broke his own records on U.S. and British album rankings with his new EP, “Hope on the Street Vol.1.”
 
The EP, released March 29, landed at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 albums chart for the week of April 13. This is J-Hope’s best record yet, his highest previously being his first album “Jack in the Box” at No. 6 on the U.S. albums chart in 2023.
 
This is the first time a K-pop act has sat on the Billboard 200’s top 10 twice, according to BigHit Music.

The EP sat at No. 38 on the Official Albums Chart as of this week. This is his highest ranking on the chart yet, beating his first album “Jack in the Box” (2022) which peaked at No. 67. The chart is a ranking of Britain’s most popular albums of the week based on CD and vinyl sales, downloads and audio and video streams.
 
“Hope on the Street Vol. 1” depicts “J-Hope’s artistic roots with a background in street dance and show his identity and beginnings,“ according to a press release from BigHit Music on Monday.
 
The six-track EP features multiple guest artists including Gaeko of Dynamic Duo and Yoon Mirae on lead track “Neuron,” Jungkook on “i Wonder,” and Benny Blanco and Chic’s Nile Rodgers on “Lock/Unlock.”
 
The EP was released along with a six-episode docuseries, also called “Hope on the Street,” that shows J-Hope meeting with inspiring street dancers in the cities he explores.

The EP was also accompanied by a pop-up event, held from March 30 to April 5, where fans gathered to celebrate J-Hope’s EP and docuseries release.
 
The pop-up venue at Seongdong District, eastern Seoul, spanned three floors. The first floor consisted of a replica of J-Hope’s studio, and a space where videos of the artist’s dance practice videos during his time as a member of a dance crew and as BTS played on repeat. The second floor showcased the documentary series and the EP, and the third floor held dance workshops where visitors could learn the choreography to the EP’s lead track “Neuron.”
