Packers vs Eagles to begin 2024 season in Brazil: What's the time zone in São Paulo?

When the Green Bay Packers played their last international game two years ago in London, it became an early Sunday morning start for fans in Wisconsin, given the time difference.

The Packers found out on Wednesday they'll play another international game in 2024 — this time in São Paulo, Brazil, on Friday, Sept. 6, to open the 2024 season, against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The game time between the Packers and the Eagles hasn't been announced yet. But since the São Paulo time zone and the Central Time Zone of the United States aren't a significant difference, the start time will likely resemble an early night game in Wisconsin.

Where is São Paulo, Brazil?

The Packers play the Eagles in São Paulo, the capital city of the state of São Paulo. The state is in the southeast region of Brazil. São Paulo is the most populous state in the country, with over 44 million people. The city of São Paulo has over 12 million.

By comparison, Wisconsin has a population just under 6 million, with Milwaukee its largest city at around 560,000. Green Bay's population is just over 100,000.

Brazil time zones

Brazil, the largest country in South America, has four time zones: Acre Standard Time, Amazon Standard Time, Brasilia Standard Time and Fernando de Noronha Standard Time.

Acre Standard Time is the same as Wisconsin's Central Time Zone.

São Paulo, Brazil, time zone

São Paulo uses Brasilia Standard Time and is two hours ahead of Wisconsin's Central Time Zone. With the game scheduled for Friday night, expect it to likely start in Wisconsin in the 5-5:30 p.m. range, given the time difference, if the NFL goes with a traditional 7-7:30 p.m. start time.

Flights from Chicago to Brazil

The direct flight from Chicago O'Hare International Airport to São Paulo Guarulhos Internatinal Airport is approximately 10 hours, 15 minutes, according to United Airlines. However, you'll likely have to take connecting flights, making your trip much longer.

Green Bay Packers 2024 schedule

The Packers will find out the dates and times of all of the games on their 2024 schedule next month. But Week 1 is now accounted for after the NFL announced the Packers would play the Eagles to begin the 2024 season on Friday, Sept. 6.

Unlike when they played in London two years ago, the Packers aren't losing a home game for playing in Brazil. The game against the Eagles was always scheduled as a road game for the Packers. This means they'll have nine home games, seven true road games and one neutral-site game.

But with a heavy Packers fan base in Brazil, don't be surprised if you hear "Go Pack Go!" chants break out.
