Brother Of Former FSU Football Star Plans To Join Seminoles As A Walk-On

Florida State's coaching staff is always to look add talent whether it's through high school recruiting, the transfer portal, junior college, or walk-ons. The Seminoles have shown they'll leave no stone unturned in their quest to rise back to the top of college football.

Mike Norvell has also made it a point to keep plenty of FSU bloodlines around his team - both on the field and on the coaching staff.

Last week, the Seminoles earned a special pledge in more ways than one as 2024 athlete Jeremiah Johnson announced that he was following in his brother's footsteps to wear garnet and gold. Johnson is the younger brother of former Florida State star and current New York Jets standout defensive end, Jermaine Johnson.

Johnson only spent one year in Tallahassee in 2021 but was a pivotal piece in the turnaround at Florida State under Mike Norvell. He was named the ACC's Defensive Player of the Year and earned first-team all-conference and All-American honors after recording 70 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, two pass deflections, and a defensive touchdown.

The Jets were impressed enough to ultimately select Johnson with the No. 26 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He's coming off his first Pro Bowl appearance with the team. Through it all, Johnson has continued to make appearances at Florida State over the last two years and had an All-American brick dedicated in his honor outside of the Moore Athletic Center in 2023.

The younger Johnson stuck around locally over the last few years and has suited up for North Florida Christian, Robert F. Munroe Day School, and Gadsden County High School. He played linebacker and running back at the prep level, recording 145 tackles, seven sacks, and three forced fumbles as a junior.

Johnson has been training with former Florida State running back Karlos Williams since the conclusion of his senior season. It's expected that he'll officially join the program this summer. There are plenty of other Seminole legacies on the roster including Marvin Jones Jr., Aaron Hester, Lamont Green Jr., Peter Warrick Jr., Jaden Floyd, and Ben Ostaszewski.
