“Kung Fu Panda 4” took top spot at the South Korean box office becoming the film that finally pushed aside local champion “Exhuma,” which had dominated for seven consecutive weeks.
But it was an understated victory, rather than a triumphant one, and the exhibition industry’s $5.6 million nationwide haul was among the lowest scoring weekends this year.
“Kung Fu Panda 4” earned $2.81 million between Friday and Sunday with a 50.1% market share. Over its full five day run since a Wednesday opening, it enjoyed a $5.96 million total.
“Exhuma” slipped to second place in its eight weekend of release. It earned $938,000 for a cumulative of $81.2 million since releasing on Feb. 22. Its cumulative total is more than three times the score of the next highest ranked film “Wonka,” with $24.5 million.
“The Last 10 Years,” a Japanese romance film which first played in Korea in May 2023, climbed to third place on its second weekend of re-release and improved its score. It earned $421,000 (compared with $398,000 the previous weekend), giving it a lifetime cumulative of $2.39 million.

“Troll Factory,” a crime drama about a journalist’s investigation of an online scam, took fourth place with $310,000. Its cumulative after three weekends stands at $6.28 million.
U.S. horror film, “The First Omen” declined to $205,000 in its second weekend. After two weekends, its total stands at $1.08 million.
BTS member Suga’s concert movie, “Suga: August D Tour ‘D-Day’ The Movie” earned $199,000 over the weekend, making it the sixth-ranked film by revenue. (Local charts, ranked in order of attendance, show it in ninth place due to its smaller number of ticket sales.) Over five days of release, it earned $430,000.
“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” was one place behind. It earned $116,000 on its third weekend, for a disappointing total of $3.57 million.
Hong Kong crime film, “The Goldfinger” opened in eighth position with $87,800. Over five days the Tony Leung- and Andy Lau-starring picture amassed $180,000.
“Dune: Part Two” earned $78,900 in ninth place. Since releasing in late February, it has piled up a total of $16.7 million which is the third highest by any film so far in 2024.
Jason Statham-starring action movie, “The Beekeeper” took $46,000 in its second weekend in Korea. Its total is $657,000.
