On Monday morning, students and parents woke up to texts and social media strings alleging that the person or persons tied to a homicide at a local movie theater on Sunday were planning to commit a school shooting at Wasilla High School.
Many parents pulled their students from classes Monday morning, with some saying that about a third of the students were not in class.
The threats turned out to unsubstantiated, and Principal Jason Marvel sent out a message letting students and their families know that the WHS administration and the School Resource Officer were aware of the threats and had plans to increase.
“School safety remains our #1 priority and, therefore, as a precaution, an increased police presence will be at WHS throughout the day.”
While there was a visible presence of WPD, classes continued as normal.
Meanwhile, the suspect associated with the homicide at Valley Cinemas has been cooperating with authorities.
Wasilla Police request anyone present at the theater who may have witnessed this incident to contact Detective Sergeant Mike Bonadurer at 907-352-5462 and reference case 24-0829.
