LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - On Monday, the Angelina Lady Roadrunners were in Lufkin taking on Alvin Community College.

Bottom of the 4th no score, runner on second when Makenzi Johnson hits one high and deep to left field. It’s back, it’s back, and does it have enough? Yes! That one sneaks out of here for the two run shot, and the Lady Roadrunners lead 2-0.

But in the top of the 4th ACC answers with a homerun of themselves thanks to a solo blast from Jailah Dotson. Later on with a runner on third they would tie it up on a sacrifice fly to centerfield, and just like that it’s 2-2.

Top of the 7th Lady Dolphins take the lead on a line drive that is smoked into left field bringing the score 3-2 in favor of Alvin.

Bottom of the 7th, same score, Lady Roadrunners needing to get a run across are down to their final out…River Hulsey hits it up the middle playable for the shortstop and Alvin Comminity takes game one in this afternoons doubleheader.

“You know, we competed most of the time,” said head coach Brette Kohring. “There were just some times that we weren’t really having great at bats. We were swinging at her pitches instead of waiting for our pitches. You know, we got another one. I’m excited that they’re gonna come out and do better the next game. We hit really well, our pitching looks good. We just got to capitalize on them. We had quite a few runners left on base. We got to capitalize on that this next game.”

Lady Roadrunners would go on to win 7-2 in game 2 to split the series. Next up for Angelina will be Lamar State this Wednesday.
