BELLMEAD, Texas (KWTX) - A Bellmead man was arrested after choking a woman multiple times, including once with a broken table leg, an affidavit alleges.

Prentesse Deon Bunch, 34, is charged with continuous violence against the family, assault of a family member that impedes breathing and violation of bond/protective order assault/stalk, all third-degree felonies.

On April 2, officers were sent to the 1000 block of Kane Street on reports of an assault.

When officers arrived, they found Bunch outside and detained him.

Officers then spoke with the victim who claimed Bunch had physically assaulted her multiple times since 2:00 a.m., according to the affidavit.

The woman said she was outside with Bunch when the affidavit states he got into a bad mood and started choking her.

When the woman asked Bunch to leave, he began choking her again on the couch, according to the affidavit.

Shortly after, the woman said Bunch took his belongings and walked outside.

Before the woman could lock the door, the affidavit states Bunch pushed his way back inside, knocked the woman over with the door, moved her to the couch and began choking her while placing one hand over her mouth.

The woman attempted to call to her daughter for help but was unable to since Bunch was covering her mouth.

The woman also said Bunch used a rubber mallet to break a table leg and held the broken table leg against the woman’s neck, the affidavit alleges.

Police observed multiple injuries to the woman’s neck and face including a bruise on the left side of her chin, swelling and redness on her neck, swollen red marks on her cheeks and jaw area and scratches, according to the affidavit.

Bunch admitted to police that he choked the woman but also claimed that the woman choked him, the affidavit states.

Police observed no visible injuries on Bunch.

Bunch had a prior charge of assault strangulation from Nov. 14, 2023, and had an active condition bond.

The affidavit states Bunch violated the bond by consuming alcohol prior to police arriving and by being within visual sight and in the company of the woman.

Bunch is being held in the McLennan County Jail on bonds totaling $30,000.
