Man accused of killing New Mexico police officer charged in local paramedic's death

A South Carolina man charged in the death of a police officer in New Mexico is also facing charges in the death of a local paramedic whose car was found at that scene.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said Friday that Jaremy Smith is charged with murder, kidnapping carjacking, criminal conspiracy in the death of Phonesia Machado-Fore. Up until Friday, the agency said Smith was considered a person of interest in the case.

Smith also faces two counts of first-degree burglary, two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, two counts of grand larceny of a motor vehicle and seven counts of felon in possession of a firearm - all charges stemming out of Marion County.
