PINE BELT, Miss. (WDAM) - It’s that time of year for Easter eggs and Easter hunts.

And Easter services.

“For the Christian faith, it’s everything our faith rests on,” Temple Baptist Church creative director Daniel Williamson said.

This weekend, Christians gather to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Dozens of events at churches like Temple Baptist Church in Hattiesburg have been set up to celebrate the holy day.

“On Sunday, we’re going to start at 7:30 a.m, have one (service) at 9 a.m. and another at 10:30 a.m.,” Williamson said. “There are three of the same services, so you can pick either one that you’d like to come to.”

Williamson said social media is key for getting the word out.

“We put whatever content we think will help to reach people,” said Williamson. “Hopefully, it will not just draw them closer to the Lord, obviously, but we would like them to come to church and experience some of the community here at our church.”

Over at Longleaf United Methodist Church, members will be joining two other churches to have one big service Friday at 6 p.m.

“We believe we’re stronger together, so to join with our sisters and brothers in Christ is a natural part of who we are,” LUMC lay leader Jeff Sims said.

The church has been open for about a year.

Sims said he hopes the energy from this weekend will carry over throughout the rest of the year.

“We hope to be a multi-ethnic, multi-racial church that just shows God’s love to everyone,” said Sims.
